Advantages: One of the key advantages of soft NIJ IIIA armor is its comfort and versatility. Unlike rifle-rated armor, it can be worn underneath clothing or in a backpack making it more practical for everyday use. Soft armor is also significantly lighter than rifle-rated armor, making it easier to wear for extended periods of time. It’s rated to stop: 9mm, .357, .40cal, 45acp, and 44 magnum.
Limitations: Despite its benefits, soft IIIA armor has its limitations. It provides less protection than rifle-rated armor and can’t stop high-powered rifle rounds. In addition, soft armor can become damaged over time and may need to be replaced typically in 5 years. It is important to choose the appropriate level of protection based on the threat level and application.
